Signs It's Time to Expand

New Berlin, WI:  Are you finding that your customers' business is growing but their facility isn't keeping up? Here are some tips for knowing when and how to help them expand their facility when it is too small to keep up with their business demands.

In order to determine whether their plant can adequately support their space requirements, you need to know whether the plant can both architecturally and engineering-wise accommodate their needs. Are you unable to bring in additional electric service? Can the shipping or receiving areas be easily increased? Can they easily add machinery or production areas? They can't add break areas and restrooms for new employees? These are flashing red lights that they should expand and consider adding a Cubic Mezzanine to solve their space needs.

The three signs that a plant can no longer fulfill its present and future operations include the following:

Overcrowding. When plant personnel constantly have to maneuver their way around each other in the course of their daily activities, this is the most obvious sign that its time for an expansion. Overcrowding may be causing extra time in shifting equipment, materials, product, etc. to handle the incoming or outgoing materials.

Revenue loss. When a revenue dip is the result of employees making do with, or working around, inefficient processes and thus squandering valuable production time, you know it's time to take a good hard look at the current facility and floor layout. Often, manufacturers are more concerned with buying equipment that will theoretically enhance their productivity than with buying space - space that can also enhance productivity if it is parceled out properly. And, this overhead space that is currently not being used has already been paid for, will require no additional property taxes, and its already being heated and cooled.

Additional equipment or personnel are a no-go. You can't hire additional personnel because the present plan lacks employee facilities or there is no floor space to add that extra machine or equipment to help with the increasing business demands.

If you detect any of these signs and have therefore determined that your customer can no longer sustain their growing business, space can be easily and economically added by adding a custom mezzanine from Cubic Designs. Every cubic foot should be justified to maximize its potential and to help your customers become more profitable.
