Customized Mezzanine/Platform System
New Belgium Brewery is the third largest brewery in Colorado and the fifth largest craft brewery in the United States. The brewery produces 11 different beers, including Fat Tire Amber Ale.
New Belgium needed to expand the brewery and add a new high-speed bottle-filling line, integrated by KHS USA, Inc. (KHS is an international manufacturer of filling and packaging systems for the beverage, food, and non-food industries.)
The expansion required an overhead platform to support a bottle conveyor from a high-level depalletizer to a ground-level infeed of filling equipment. The conveyor made a long decline from approximately 15’ down to just over 10’. The overhead platform needed to change elevation to accommodate the conveyor. Additionally, the platform had to include stairs, ladders and crossover structures that would provide easy access to the conveyor system. KHS selected Cubic Designs to design and build a customized mezzanine/platform system that provided approximately 1,750 square feet, with elevations that varied from 11’-6" to 7’.
The NBB expansion also required an overhead platform to access the case palletizer located at the end of the bottle-filling line. This platform needed to wrap around the palletizer to provide access to it as well as the robot and conveyors that passed through the center. The entire machine area was also enclosed with safety guarding and cages. The palletizer mezzanine was approximately 500 square feet, with an elevation of just under 8’.
The mezzanines worked very well for KHS and for New Belgium and both companies were pleased with the aesthetics of the Cubic Designs powder coated steel. New Belgium is very proud of their new beer line, and the mezzanines support the "look" that they wanted with the line, while also providing the basic functionality of a 125-psf support structure.
