Double Deck Mezzanine with Rack and Conveyors
175,000 total square feet
New Balance picked material handling equipment suppliers that could accommodate their building design and project timeline. Cubic Designs' engineers worked with the New Balance architect and general contractor to ensure that building footings would be constructed to accommodate the mezzanine structure. 13' sq. footings were located every 56' x 50' to support building columns and mezzanine columns. Cubic Designs pinpointed exact location of anchors required for mezzanine column base plates so that anchors could be preset when building footings were poured. Special features of the New Balance Cubic Mezzanine: Double deck design. Mezzanine supports complex system of rack and conveyors. Deck height of 1st mezzanine level is 16.5 ft. Deck height of 2nd level is 27 ft. 14" square tube support columns were used. Mezzanine required 130 support columns. Each column was 27 ft. high. Each column weighed 3,500 lbs. Lower level column to framing connections required 36 bolts per column (to accommodate Seismic Zone forces). Mezzanine contains over 10 miles of framing members (joists & stringers). Deck surface is polytextured plywood over steel roof deck. Framing is painted with an epoxy, powder coat paint finish to match New Balance specified color. Framing members were pre-punched with thousands of holes to accommodate sprinkler pipe. Total job required over 80 semi-truck loads of material.
